Peanut Project: Update #4 - SHE DID IT!!

Recess........

In the process of trying to hit her goal, the Peanut had several obstacles in her way.  If you've ready some of the earlier posts, specifically Update #1, you would know that this little girl is an All-Star Cheerleader.  So, not only was she having to deal with the fatigue from running...she had cheer practice and competitions to "help".  She also had different appointments that derailed days, and rain days.  In order to help make up some of this, her teachers gave her the option during the final week to make up these sessions and to run at recess instead of playing. She jumped at the opportunity knowing how close she was. What 9 year old do you know chooses to run instead of play with her friends!?  Well, my determined little Peanut did.

100 MILES........

Unofficially she completed her 100 miles on May 21st, 2021 while waiting for her sister to pick her up.  On May 26th, 2021 it was officially confirmed in front of the whole school that she was 1 of 12 kids in 3rd through 6th grade to get 100 miles.  And that was 12 out of around 140-150 kids in 3rd-6th grade. In the ultrarunning world, completing a 100 mile event nets you a belt buckle....they get trophies.  If they complete 100+ miles all 4 years the also get a special plaque during their 6th grade year. She has her sights set on a plaque. I may have to surprise her and get her a custom belt buckle. (Side note: Maybe by then I will have earned my 100 mile buckle.)

To cap off her accomplishment, she was the only girl. You read that right, she was the ONLY GIRL out of  probably 70-ish girls in the eligible class range to hit 100 miles!

This girls accomplishments are TOTALLY going to eclipse anything that I have set for myself or that I will ever do. I can't wait to see what the future holds for this girl......except that mom and I don't want her to grow up too fast.

The Next Part........

So, the Peanut has been watching documentary's as part of her journey to running 100 miles. She has 1 line/brand/race that she has been watching specifically. I'll give you a hint at which one, no female finisher in its history with only 15 finishers ever. Frozen Head State Park. The Yellow Gate.

Got it yet!?  No!?  Okay, it is the Barkley Marathons created by Lazarus Lake.

We started throwing around the idea of doing a "mockumentary" about the race. We are putting together a story so that we can create a 5+ minute mockumentary with the Peanut being the "star". Now that school has let out for the year I plan to try to get a final version of the "what". We already have a location, a la the Century Club trail. I also need a list of props and other people to take part..... I think that I am biting off a lot more than any video that I have ever done before, but for my kids I will do a lot. And it should be just as fun as it is stressful.  Oh, and with it will come another surprise that you will have to wait to find out about.
